Abstract
351,201. Photo-mechanical printing- surfaces. BEKK & KAULEN CHEMISCHE FABRIK GES., DR., 102, Hindenburgdamm, Lichterfelde, Berlin. May 26, 1930, No. 16175. Convention date, May 27, 1929. [Class 98 (ii).] Screen diapositives for the production of printing surfaces, having screen points which can be reduced and re-enlarged as required, are produced by printing from a screen negative on to a silver halide plate which has been bathed in a bichromate solution. A sufficiently long exposure to produce a differentially hardened bichromate image is given, without producing an over-exposed and useless silver image. The silver image is then developed with a strong developer (e.g. glycine) and fixed. The reduction of the screen points may now be effected in any known manner. If re-enlargement of the dots is required the bichromate image is developed in hot water to wash out the unexposed soluble gelatin, and the silver image reintensified with strong intensifiers such as a lead intensifier. Re-enlargement up to the size of the hardened points of the developed bichromate image is possible. Re-intensification of the silver image, without actual re-enlargement of the image dots, may be effected with mercury or copper intensifiers without a hot-water development of the bichromate image. The reduction and re-intensification with or without re-enlargement may be effected locally.
