Abstract
351,050. Ventilators; valves and valve apparatus. STONE & CO., Ltd., J., Deptford, and VIDAL, J. F. B., 18, Brandram Road, Lee, both in London. March 20, 1930, Nos. 8962 and 16041. [Class 137.] In ventilating apparatus in which an adjustable nozzle device is employed for delivering an air stream in any desired direction in a room or the like, a universally mounted air directing-nozzle is adapted to control the supply of air by a push-andpull operation. A spider frame a, Fig. 3, comprising three arms b supports an annulus c which forms a spherical bearing for a hollow member e. A disc m having series of annular apertures n and centrally formed with a spherical socket r is fitted within the ball member which also carries a short diametral tubular guide j. Slidably mounted within the guide is a nozzle k, a flange p on the inner end of which contacts, in the limiting positions, with the disc m and the guide j. When in contact with the disc, which forms a valve seating, the air supply is cut off. A ball s carried on a pin t projecting through a stem of the spider frame d is pressed by a spring v into the socket r forming in all positions a central support for the disc and keeping the ball member e pressed against its seating c. In a modification the ball member is of spun sheet metal and the valve seating member is attached as by welding, to the circular edge opposite the guide tube. In a further modification, Fig. 7, the ball member is formed of two hemispherical portions 5, 6. The inner portion 5 opposite the outlet is provided with a packing ring 13 of felt held in position by a fixing member 15 to form a seating for the inner end of the nozzle. The seating 9 of the hollow ball member is adapted to be secured to an air duct 10, the air entering the ball through apertures 20.
