Abstract
350,917. Winding thread and like packages. BRENZINGER, J., Fairfield, Connecticut, U.S.A. Dec. 17, 1929, No. 38637. Convention date, July 13. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii).] Thread &c. is wound in superposed layers, each of which comprises undulating helices of a plurality of complete turns, adjacent layers being wound in opposite directions by a reciprocation and vibration of the thread-guide relative to the rotating bobbin, the vibrations may be of different periodicity in the two directions of the reciprocation of the traverse to form a winding such as that shown in Fig. 7, thus allowing liquids readily to penetrate during dyeing or other liquid treatment. The bobbin 1, Fig. 1, is continuously rotated by gears 4, 5, and the thread-guide bar 7 sliding in guides 8 is traversed by a cam 9 having cam rollers 13 and a guide 11 for reciprocating a rack member 12 engaging a pinion 15 on the same shaft as a pinion 16 which engages a rack 17 on the bar 7, which also carries a bracket 24 with bearings for a sprocket 25 meshing with a chain 26, driven as shown from the cam wheel. The sprocket 25 has a crank pin 22 which vibrates the thread-guide 3 by the link 20 and lever 19, the periodicity of the vibration being shorter as the sprocket 25 advances to the right in Fig. 1, against the movement of the chain. In a modification the traverse is moved as above described and the bobbin shaft also reciprocated by a gear section &c. driven from the pinion 16, the gear 4 rotating the bobbin shaft through a gear splined thereon. Further modifications are described wherein the vibrations are of constant periodicity and are effected by a constantly rotated crank having link connections &c., the traverse being effected by a cam driven lever &c.
