[Class 3 (ii).] An advertising device comprises hollow inflatable bodies of rubber or other suitable material provided with valves or other means whereby they may be filled with gas to form characters. As shown the characters 13 are held together by side chains or coils 4 passing through sleeves 5, and smaller chains 6 passing through sleeves 8 and lugs 7. The chains 4 terminate in a spacing bar 9 to which is connected an anchoring chain 10, the characters being filled with hydrogen or other suitable gas so that the sign will float freely in the air. A further inflated body in the form of a model, such as that of a tea pot, may be added to the device. Smaller signs may be formed integrally with a supporting tube through which they are inflated, this tube carrying a single valve at one end. In a further modification a standard frame may be provided in which the characters are mounted interchangeably. Suitable weights or stabilizing surfaces may be provided to cause the signs to float in any desired position, and these may be controlled by a separate cord passing down the main supporting cord or chain; such a cord may also serve to control illumination effects or the distribution of pamphlets. In the largest signs, these operations may be effected by a pilot carried in a basket or car suspended from the device. The signs may be coloured or coated with luminous paint, and may be illuminated by flood lighting or in any other desired manner.
