350,097. Fluid-pressure and electric brakes. ELECTRO-MECHANICAL BRAKE CO., Ltd. and CADBURY, G. N., Eagle Works, West Bromwich. March 27, 1930, No. 9763. [Class 103 (i).] In brakes for tramway vehicles and other rolling stock, having pneumatic wheel and track brakes and an electric brake which is brought into action by movement of the operating lever beyond the position at which the track brake is applied, the pneumatic brakes can be applied as desired and the wheel brake is released when the electric brake is applied. The inlet valve b and the exhaust valve c of the wheel brake are operated by a hand-lever a. The inlet valve g and the exhaust valve h of the track brake are operated by a lever f the end of which is engaged by a groove e in a cam fixed to the spindle of the controller handle d. When the handle d is moved in the direction of the arrow 4 first the valve g is opened to apply the track brake and then another cam i on the controller spindle operates a.lever j which engages the lever a by means of a spring plunger l and opens the wheel brake exhaust valve c, and finally the electric brakes are applied. When the controller handle d is moved in the direction of the arrow 3 to supply current to the motor first the track brake exhaust valve h is opened then the cam i again causes the exhaust valve c to open. The electric brake may be magnetic or rheostatic or both may be employed.
