Abstract

349,749. Magneto-electric machines. CHRISTIANSEN, H., Pinneberg, Germany. May 5, 1930, No. 13786. [Class 35.] In an ignition magneto especially for small internal-combustion engines, the hollow flywheel space enclosing the magneto parts is arranged on the side of the spoke disc u remote from the engine t, and the stationary parts of the magneto are carried by a removable cover f. The flywheel carries also the fan blades v and is arranged in the fan casing g. The permanent magnets k are secured to the flywheel by screws and wedges and are magnetically isolated therefrom by sectors p of non-magnetic material. The rim of the wheel is formed with a groove o<1> having a radial edge o<2> whereby oil &c. is trapped and thrown out centrifugally into the casing g whence it escapes at z. The cover f carries the armature core a, interrupter c, condenser d and collector e. and fits into an opening in the casing g. A groove f<3> is provided in the cover to trap moisture &c. which runs into the casing through channels s<1>. The interrupter cam q is held on the flywheel by a pin x and nut r. The condenser d and interrupter c are carried by a bowed part f<1> fixed or formed on the cover f, and the opening f2 is closed by a spring-held cap h. In order to avoid condensation on the contacts, the interrupter and, if desired, the condenser also, may be enclosed in an air-tight chamber, Fig. 3. A cover F fixed on or formed integrally with the cover f encloses the parts and also the interrupter cam q and a packed joint is provided at y between the casing F and the flywheel hub u<1> or shaft w. The interrupter and condenser may be secured to either of the covers f, F.
