Abstract
349,073. Electric signalling systems. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Feb. 14, 1930, No. 5037. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1929. [Class 40 (i).] Apparatus at a sub-station is controlled from a main station by means of a circuit diagram at the sub-station, the diagram being adapted to indicate the necessary operations to be performed. As shown, part of an energy-distributing network at the sub-station is represented by a luminous circuit diagram 1 and also by an additional diagram comprising switches 3, 4, a stretch of line 2, and a source of energy 5, these portions of the diagram having their counterparts in the energy-distributing network. Groups of lamps, such as 6, 7, are provided to indicate the portions of the line which are under potential, the lamps being under the control of relays R1, R2. Other groups of lamps such as 8, 9, which differ in colour from the groups 6, 7, are adapted to indicate the switches requiring to be altered. The switches 3, 4 may be connected to the switch-position indicators 31, 41, respectively, so that want of agreement is indicated by a flickering light, or alternatively, the switch may be an auxiliary contact of the corresponding oil switch of the network, to be opened and closed therewith. The main station is provided with a distributing disc 15 with contacts adapted to be engaged by an arm 16, which rotates in synchronism with an arm 26 at the sub-station moving over a corresponding distributing disc 25. The contacts on the disc 15 are each associated with a control key, and means are provided whereby the contact arms 16, 26 rotate for one revolution only when an order is transmitted. If the operator of the main station wishes to open switch 3, he presses key 17, so that as the contact arms 16, 26 engage the contacts corresponding to the key 17, a circuit is complete through a coil 28, which acts to reverse the position of a switch 30, whereby a circuit is complete through lamps 8 and battery 101, causing the lamps 8 to light. This indicates to the operator at the sub-station that he is required to open switch 3. The opening of this switch causes relay R1 to be de-energized so that the contacts 11, 12, 13 fall back to normal position. The circuit of the lamps 8 is then opened and the lamps go out. Lamps 6, 7 are also extinguished, denoting absence of potential from the line 2. If the operator at the main station wishes the switch 3 to be closed again, he presses key 17 a second time whereby the lamps 8 are again illuminated to indicate operation of the switch 3. In a similar manner the key 18 controls the operation of switch 4 by the illumination of lamps 9. The reversing switch 40 in addition to being controlled by relays 32, 33, is also adapted to be controlled by relays 34, 35 which are connected as shown to the reversing switch 30. The arrangement is such that providing switches 30, 40 occupy similar positions such as shown, the operation of the switch 30 consequent upon an order transmitted from the main station causes a similar operation of the twitch 40. This switch similarly operates on the succeeding switch, and so on, providing that the switches previously occupied similar positions. This progressive switching ceases at the switch the position of which happens to have been the reverse of that occupied by the preceding switch. The lamps 8, 9, &c. are illuminated in accordance with the operation of the reversing switches 30, 40, &c. If the switch 3 is required to be opened the operation of the switch causes the extinction of all the illuminated control lamps. If a number of adjacent line switches including switch 3 are opened, and all these switches are to be closed it is only necessary to press key 17 to close switch 3, as the attendant at the substation must operate the switches consecutively before all the control lamps are extinguished. If, however, only a few of these adjacent switches are to be closed, for example switches 3, 4, keys 17, 18 are both closed. The reversing switches 30, 40, &c. may be operated by hand at the sub-station in which case the switch 110 is opened to prevent the operator at the main station from transmitting an order. The invention may be applied to the control of steam or water pipe networks or similar energydistributing networks.
