Abstract

258,012. Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Remington, C. June 12, 1925. Drawings to Specification. Selective distant-control systems; tell-tale apparatus.-Relates to a system for supervising and controlling from a remote point, the operation and condition of a number of apparatus units at a substation. The apparatus units, e.g., circuit breakers and the supervisory lamps are connected to two switches which are located at the substation and control office respectively and are adapted to be rotated in synchronism either due to a change of condition of an apparatus unit or, when it is desired to check the indicated positions of all the units. The contacts of the switch at the substation are marked in accordance with the positions of the units and when in operation. the switch transmits a train of impulses which is characteristic of the positions of all the apparatus units. The impulse train comprises two impulses for each apparatus unit the first impulses being always of the same polarity but the second impulses being of the same or opposite polarity depending upon the position of the units. The impulses are transmitted over two line wires to operate the switch at the control station. The contacts of this switch are connected to relays which control the illumination of the supervisory lamps. Each pair of lamps is controlled by two relays, one of which is operated by the first impulse to control the locking circuit of the second relay which is energized or left de-energized according to the position of the corresponding apparatus unit. The apparatus units at the substation are selected by a constant number of impulses which are transmitted under the control of a step-by-step switch at the control office. The contacts of this switch are, connected to the selecting keys. When a key is operated the switch is marked in such a manner that an impulse train, having an impulse of distinctive character in a position in the train corresponding to the operated-key, is transmitted. The impulses prior to the characteristic impulse operate a switch at the substation to effect selection and the remaining impulses of the train operate a second switch which transmits a check of the selection to the control station only when the switches at the substation are in complementary positions. The system described is identical with that described in Specifications 252,230, 252,231, 258,178 and 258,179 which are referred to.
