Abstract

258,179. Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd., and Remington, C. June 12, 1925. Drawings to Specification. Selective distant control systems; tell-tale apparatus.-Relates to a system for supervising and controlling from a remote point the operation and condition of a number of apparatus units at a substation. The apparatus units, e.g. circuit breakers, are selected by a constant number of impulses which are transmitted over a single line circuit, under the control of a stepby-step switch at the control station, the contacts of the switch being adapted to be marked by selecting keys associated with the circuit breakers. The selection is determined by the position on the impulse train of an impulse of distinctive character consequent upon the marking of the transmitting switch. The selection is checked at the control station prior to the operation of the selected unit by a key common to all the units. When a key is operated to select any particular unit, the impulses in the train prior to the characteristic impulse operate a step-by-step switch at the substation to effect the selection and the subsequent impulses on the train operate a second switch which, after the complete transmission of the impulse train, completes a circuit from a battery at the substation over the impulsing line circuit and the selected contacts of both switches to illuminate a lamp at the control station individual to the operated key and simultaneously prepares the operating circuit of the selected unit over a second line circuit. The operation of the correct lamp checks the selection, and depression of the common key at the control station operates the selected unit. The switches at the substation are held in their operated positions so long as current flows continuously over the impulsing circuit. If, after selection, operation of the circuit breaker is not desired, the switches may be restored to normal by restoring the operated selecting key. The system described is identical with that described in Specifications 252,230, 252,231, 258,012, and 258,178, which are referred to.
