Abstract

348,824. Refrigerating ; raising liquids. ELECTROLUX, Ltd., 153, Regent Street, London.-(Assignees of Lenning, A. ; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.) April 8, 1930, No. 11143. Convention date, April 9, 1929. [Class 29.] Absorption systems.-In a circulation system for liquids wherein vapour generated from the liquid serves to raise it through a capillary or small bore tube to a higher level, the upper part of the lift tube is sloped or shaped so as to diminish the effective pressure head of a liquid column in the tube, whereby tendency to back-flow is reduced. As shown in Fig. 5, the lift pipe 13 from a heated coil 12 communicating with the low-level vessel 10 slopes steeply in its lower part 16 and less steeply in its upper part 17, which may be in the form of a coil. The lift pipe may be formed to a continuous curve sloping away from the vertical, or it may have a bore increasing towards the top but still of capillary dimensions. The application to a continuous-cycle refrigerating system is shown in Fig. 7, in which a generator 20 with a central flue 21 heated by a gas burner 22 is provided with a "pumping" coil 12 continued upwards as an inclined straight pipe 16 and a coil 17 discharging into a chamber 24. This chamber has a central tubular baffle with apertures at the bottom through which the liquid flows into a pipe 23 back to the generator, while gas separated from the liquid passes on to the usual rectifier 27, condenser 29, and evaporator, not shown. The absorber 10 is fitted with apertured discs 38 and communicates with a gas heat exchanger 32. Strong liquor flows from the bottom of the absorber by a pipe 11 and interchanger 43 to the "pumping" coil 12, and weak liquor returns from the generator by pipe 44, interchanger 43 and pipe 46, to the top of the absorber. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the application of the modified lift-tube to circulating systems in which vapour is introduced into the liquid. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
