348,500. Controlling variable-speed gearing. BARON, H., 231, Strand, London.-(Lanz Akt.-Ges., H. ; 53, Lindenbofstrasse, Mannheim, Germany.) Oct. 16, 1930, No. 31056. [Class 80 (ii).] The strikers b, c for the change-gear elements are slidably mounted on fixed guide-bars d, e and are normally locked thereto by spring pawls m, n. The locking parts o, p of the pawls and the notches s .. x in the bars with which they engage are rectangular in section to prevent disengagement by lateral pressure. The enlarged head i of a selector control lever a passes through a slot l in a fixed check strip k so as to engage between a pair of cheeks g on striker b, or between like cheeks h on striker c. The head i must strike pawl m or pawl n and positively disengage it from the bar before the striker can be moved away from neutral by pressure on one or other of its cheeks. A stop z is provided to prevent striker n from being moved from high-speed notch x beyond neutral notch w to reverse notch v. To move striker c to reverse, the pawl n must be purposely set to pass between stop z and a cut-away part y of bar e. The pawls instead of being pivoted, as shown, may be of the sliding type.
