Abstract

347,854. S e w i n gmachines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Singer, Clydebank, CORRALL, H., St. Alban, Helensburgh, Dumbartonshire, and HEGGIE, J., 7, Drumry Road Clydebank. April 9, 1930, No. 11249. [Class 112.] In sewing-machines in which the work-clamp is given longitudinal and transverse movements for the formation of a group of stitches for example in stitching around tabs for attachment to soft collars, the lower member of the clamp is formed as a work-receiving die and the upper member as a clamping foot which may be swung aside to give access to the die. The die 1 is carried by a bar 24 to which the usual movements are given by a cam 31. The upper clamping foot 4 is carried by shanks 6, 7, slidably mounted in a bracket 8 which is pivoted on a pin 9 mounted on the bar 24. During a stitching operat.on the foot 4 is held on the work by springs 12, 13 which engage notches in the top ends of the shanks. At the end of an operation a pedal-operated lever 16 is actuated and causes a bar 20 to rise and free the springs 12, 13. A light spring 14 then opens the clamp, and a spring 21 rocks aside the bracket 8 carrying the clamp foot.
