Abstract

347,005. Bearings. WATSON, F., 43, Southampton Buildings, London.-(Aktiebolaget Nomy; 2, Norrmalmstorg, Stockholm.) April 26, 1930, No. 12897. [Class 12 (i).] Cylindrical-journal and spherical-journal bearings.-In tilting-block bearings, adapted for use in connecting-rods and the like, the blocks are reversible in inclination according to the direction of rotation of the shaft and are supported eccentrically in each position. The blocks 9 are formed with a rib 12 slightly wider than grooves 11 in a supporting ring 2. Stops 15 limit the peripheral travel of the blocks. If the shaft 8 rotates as shown, the block 9 pivots on an eccentric point a. On reversing the motion of the shaft, the blocks pivot about the other edge of the rib which rests on the step 13<1> on the ring 2. To prevent axial movement the blocks are formed with a groove adapted to engage a medial annular rib 14 on the ring 2. The shaft bearing surface 7 is preferably spherical. Specification 290,637, [Class 12 (i), Bearings &c.], is referred to.
