G. ; 363, South Lafayette Street, both in Marshall, Missouri, U.S.A.) Jan. 23, 1930, No. 2376. [Class 4.] An aircraft wing or other aerofoil comprises open-work sheet metal blanks similar to that shown in Fig. 1 bent along the parallel strips 1 into zig-zag form as shown in Fig. 2 and connected to encircling ribs 5 or directly connected to a sheet-metal covering with transversely spaced corrugations. Where ribs 5 are used they are of channel or U-section flattened or recessed at the points where they are secured to the bent parts 1 of the metal sheet and the wing is covered with fabric or sheet metal. The zig-zag members 2 of the metal blank are pressed into U-shape to give stiffness. The distances between the strips 1 on the blank may be different in order to conform to the varying depth of the wing when the blank is bent to equal angles, or the distances may be uniform and the blank bent to different angles at different parts of the wing. To avoid unduly large blanks, several separately stamped sections may be joined end to end.
