B., Norwood, Eccleston Park, Prescot, and HARRISON, A., The Hollies, Holt Hill Lane, Whiston, both in Lancashire. Dec. 27, 1929, No. 39582. [Class 93.] Relates to apparatus enabling the processes of silvering and coppering in the production of mirror glass to be effected automatically and continuously without the necessity of handling by the operator; in addition, the operations of painting and drying may also be effected automatically and, if desired, continuously with the silvering and coppering. The glass is delivered by a conveyer 1 to the rollers 2 which carry it beneath water sprays 3 and pass it to a cloth band conveyer 7 passing over a heated table 8. The glass is covered by a silvering- solution and the table is of such a length that a sufficient thickness of silver is deposited before the end of the table is reached. The glass is then passed to a band 10 of copper net, chain or thin perforated sheet, or copper plates flexibly joined. The band is depressed, by passing under rollers 12 engaging its edges, into a coppering-solution, the band acting as the cathode, and plates 24 of copper forming the anode. The glass passes to a roller conveyer 13 whereon it is washed by water from sprays 14, and to a slat conveyer 15 which conveys it through a drying-chamber 16, a chamber 17 wherein shellac is sprayed on by sprays 18 movable across the chamber on rails 19, a chamber 20 wherein paint is sprayed from a traversing air brush 21, and through a drying-chamber 22 through which heated air is blown.
