Abstract

<PICT:0459552/III/1> <PICT:0459552/III/2> Relates to apparatus for applying glaze and the like to tiles or like articles in which the tiles are carried under a roller for applying the coating material. According to the present invention, the glaze is fed in to the coating roller from a feed container mounted above the roller, and the container has one or more outlets or nozzles through which the glaze flows, means being provided for controlling the flow according to the quantity required to be discharged on to the coating roller. The tiles are carried beneath the coating-roller 16, Fig. 1, by an endless belt 11 of rubber or rustless metal, and a power-driven rotary brush 18 which dips into water is provided to clean the belt. The coating roller comprises a brass tube 20, Fig. 3, having a covering 21 of rubber, a perforated bras shell 22, a perforated rubber mat 23 around which a sheet 24 of loofah is wrapped, and finally an outer shell 25 of metal gauze. The bearings of the roller are carried by uprights 28, Fig. 1, formed with rack teeth 29 to enable them to be raised and lowered to adjust the distance of the roller 16 above the conveyer. Glaze is fed on to the roller by a feed container 33 attached to a supply pipe 35, the flow being controlled by a valve 34. The conveyer and the roller 16 are driven by a chain 13 tensioned by a sprocket 36 and a counterweight 37.
