Abstract

345,265. Automatic exchange switches. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., SMITH, C. P., and NEWTON, G., Columbia House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 18, 1929, No. 38778. [Class 40 (iv).] A single-motion rotary switch is constructed in two units comprising a bank unit and a unit consisting of the wipers and driving mechanism, the two units being automatically locked together when assembled. Relative adjustment between the units is provided for and the setting is not disturbed when the units are separated. The bank unit comprises plates 1 slotted at 21 to receive the wiper shaft 20 and provided at one end with pins 10 adapted to engage slots 14 in the wiper unit, Fig. 4. To assemble the switch, the slots 14 are engaged with the pins 10 and the wiper unit is rotated about the pins until the shaft 20 enters slots 21 where it snaps behind spring catches 23, 22 mounted on the bank unit. The feed-wipers 7 carried by the wiper unit engage spring clips 11 mounted on the bank unit. The adjustment comprises a hollow screw 15 and locknut 16 mounted on the wiper unit, and a screw 18 loosely passing through the screw 15 and engaging a threaded aperture in the bank unit for securing the units together after adjustment of screw 15. To separate the units, screw 18 is removed and the wiper unit is rotated about shaft 20 so that the catches 23 are released by the engagement of projections 24 with members 27 on the wiper unit. A single mounting plate 1 may be used.
