[Class 5 (ii).] A dovecot or other elevated bird-house has some parts fixed, or movable only within narrow limits, and other parts vertically slidable on a support. A vertical post 2 with base 3 below ground level, has secured to its upper end the outer shell 5 of the cot, which shell is fixed by cross-supports 8 engaging the post 2 within limits defined by the neck 15 and comprises a roof 6 to which side walls 7 may be attached. The floor 11 of the cot, to which are attached nest boxes 12 and a feeding rack 17, slides on the post 2, preferably being splined thereon to prevent rotation, and has cut-away portions 14 to engage the walls 6. The floor is maintained in its normal position and supported by a rod 19 pivoted to the post 2 at 20 and locked in position. A stop 22 supports the floor 11 when the rod 19 is unlocked and turned down and the floor let down for cleaning. Entrance holes 16 are provided in the walls. In a modification two floors are provided, and are connected so as to slide up and down together. In this case, a sash-weight arrangement may be provided to balance the weight of the floors, the sash-weight moving inside the hollow post 2.
