Abstract
<PICT:0344982/IV/1> Films and foils are produced from viscous solutions of cellulose, cellulose compounds, gelatine, or like substances by applying the solution in the wedge-shaped space between two smooth rollers adjustable with respect to their distance apart and rotating in opposite directions, the solution being carried by the roller surfaces in the form of a thin layer into a precipitating bath or evaporative medium such as hot air. If both rollers dip into a precipitating bath, two film foils are produced simultaneously. The film is stripped off the roller inside or outside the precipitating bath and is carried forward for further treatment. The thickness of the film is regulated by the adjustable clearance between the two rollers. Owing to the constant movement of the roller surfaces forming the walls of the pouring out opening, viscous liquids in unfiltered condition may be used. As shown in the Figure, viscous liquid such as viscose is applied at 4 between the smooth rollers 1, 2 rotating in the direction shown by the arrows. The liquid layer on roller 1 is carried into the precipitating bath 3 and is solidified. The film is drawn off by the roller 5, carried again into the precipitating bath by means of roller 6 and then washed and further treated in known manner.
