[Class 3 (i).] An advertising device comprises a display disc, having a transparent centre, continuously rotated in front of an intermittently moved endless or non- endless display band. The Figure shows a non- endless display band 29 wound on and off storage rollers 31, 32. The display disc 10 is supported on three friction wheels 12, 13, and may represent a gramophone record through the central portion of which the part of the band 29 lying between guide rollers 30 is seen. The rotation of the disc 10 is effected by the wheel 12, which is driven from a motor 18 through worm gearing 19, 20, pulleys 21, 22, shaft 17, and a final belt. The band 29 is intermittently moved by passing it round a drum 33 having teeth 34 engaging perforations in the band, the storage rollers 31, 32 being so interconnected by slipping belts and free wheels that they rotate one another and maintain the band 29 taut. Two oppositely directed ratchet wheels 41 are mounted on a shaft 61 which is engaged with one or the other according to whether it is pushed in or out, the shaft 61 being slidable relatively to the drum 33 but rotatably fixed thereto. The pawls 44, 45 engaging the two ratchets 41 are simultaneously advanced in opposite senses by links 46, 47 pivoted to an arm 49 hinged at 51 and rocked by the pull of a hook 55 and the retraction of an adjustable spring 52. The hook 55 is held against the pin 54 of the arm 49 by a spring 56, and is reciprocated by a crank pin 26 driven by the motor 18. A weight 28 on the shaft 27 counterbalances the spring 52 and the weight of the pawloperating members. The axial movement of the shaft 61 is effected by an incline 66 pivoted at 68 and fixed to two shoes 71. When the band 29 is almost unwound from the paying-off roller a bar 69 mounted on the band near its end, and normally lying in notches 70 in the roller flanges, engages and tilts a shoe 71 and rocks the incline 66 across, the incline pressing against the sides of a grooved wheel 65 fixed on the shaft 61. The drum 33 is held in position when stationary by a spring-pressed plunger 57 engaging holes 60 in the drum side. The plunger is released by a lever 58 rocked by the engagement therewith of the rising arm 49. The display matter may be on separate sheets each held to the band 29 by inserting their corners under loops or slots in the band. A lamp is disposed behind the band, which may be of tracing cloth, celluloid, thin metal, &c.
