Abstract

344,739. Cables. CREMER, C., 17, K÷rnerstrasse, Wendenschloss, C÷penick, Germany. June 7, 1930, No. 17699. [Class 36.] In order to assist the dissipation of heat from a multi-core cable comprising a plurality of singlecore lead-sheathed cables, lead tubes preferably filled with jute or paper are provided in the filling spaces between the cores. Fig. 2 shows a threecore cable having lead tubes 4 packed with jute strands 5, disposed between the cores. The lead tubes 4, which may be adapted to carry pilot wires or a cooling fluid, preferably possess a circular crosssection prior to the twisting of the cores, the tubes being deformed into a segmental shape during the twisting operation. The sheaths 3 of the individual cables may be formed by two or more extruded lead coverings coated with a packing compound. The cores are held together by a jute covering 6, about which is applied an iron armouring 7. A layer of jute 8 completes the cable. In order to avoid pressure between the armouring and the lead sheaths of the cores, the tubes 4 may project above the circle described about the cores. In a cable having a triangular cross section, the tubes 4 are formed with a flat outer surface 12 as shown in Fig. 4.
