Abstract
<PICT:0344643/III/1> The mixing, emulsification and spreading parts of the apparatus described in the parent Specification for applying surfacing compositions to roads are mounted as a single unit separate from, and detachably connected with, the tanks 1, 2 containing bituminous composition and water. The tanks 1, 2, which may be mounted on a motor wagon provided with heating means, are connected by flexible pipes 3, 4 with the mixing and emulsification apparatus 9 which may also be heated and carried on a trolley 10. A single pump or a number of pumps arranged in series or parallel may be provided on the trolley 10. The mixing and emulsification may be effected either on the delivery or suction side of the pump, or the mixing may occur on the suction side and emulsification on the delivery side. Additions of solid material, such as chalk, lime, clay, mud, &c., may be made to the emulsion. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) also describes the provision of an injector just before the spraying nozzle for effecting mixing and emulsification; and the application of compressed gas during the mixing and emulsification process. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
