Abstract
343,759. Roller-and-ring mills for grinding coal &c. MADORE, M., 26, Rue Bourgelat, Alfort, Seine, France. Feb. 28, 1930, No. 6645. [Class 59.] Solid materials of average hardness, particularly coal, are pulverized by feeding them into a rotary drum and acting on the material by abrasive grinders 8 rotating in a direction opposite to that of the drum, the pulverized material being withdrawn by an air-current. The axes of the grinders are adjustable to regulate the thickness of material on the. wall of the drum. The material is charged into a hopper 6, Fig. 5, and supplied thereby to the drum and the pulverized coal &c. is withdrawn by way of a duct 18, 19, 20 and discharged from the pipe 21 by a fan 3. The air for carrying the pulverized material is drawn through a pipe 21, Fig. 2, provided with a valve, into a chamber between the drum and the frame 1. The drum may have a lip 26 to retain the bed of coal &c. on the drum wall. The grinders are mounted on spindles 9 eccentrically mounted in blocks 13 which may be angularly adjusted and retained in the angularly adjusted position by fastenings 14. The angular position of the blocks 13 may be automatically controlled by a detector engaging the material in the drum. The drum and fan are driven by a shaft 2 and a hinged cover 7 carrying the grinders and the driving mechanism 16, 11, 10 therefor is provided with a central drive shaft 15 which clutches by means of pins 25 with the drive shaft 2 when the cover is in closed position. According to a modification the drum may be formed as shown in Fig. 6.
