Abstract

343,379. Electric clocks. INTERNATIONAL TIME RECORDING CO. OF NEW YORK, Endicott, New York, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Thomas, F.; 27, West 11th Street, New York, U.S.A.) April 9, 1930, No. 11295. Convention date, May 2, 1929. [Class 139.] A synchronized clock system in which the normal impulses (e.g. one a minute) and the synchronizing impulses are sent over a single circuit, has secondary clocks each with a magnet having two armatures, one for driving the clock hands and one for removing (when an increased e.m.f. is transmitted) abutment means which normally arrest the hands near the synchronizing time. At the master clock contacts 14, 16 are closed once an hour, contacts 17 once a minute, and contacts 19 by the escapement 11. .At each minute impulse a circuit G, B, 32, 33, 17, 34, G is closed. Magnet 34 closes contacts 35 and an impulse is sent over circuit G, B (in part), 42, 43, 35, 37, 21, G to advance the secondaries. For thirty seconds before the fifty-ninth minute of the master clock, contacts 16 close and 19 send rapid impulses to step-up any slow secondaries. At exactly the fifty-ninth minute contacts 14 close to energize magnet 40, which closes contacts 43a and opens 43. An impulse of increased e.m.f. then passes to the secondaries over G, B (full), 42<1>, 43a, 45, 35, 37, 21, G. In each secondary clock, at each minute impulse, the magnet 21 and its armature and pawl 21a advance the hands until they indicate the fifty-ninth minute, whereupon they are arrested by a lug 23 on the ratchet 22 meeting a finger 25 carried on a second armature 24. Spring 26 is stronger than spring 26a so that, only when the impulse of increased e.m.f. is sent at the fifty-ninth minute of the master clock, is the magnet 21 able to attract this armature 24 and release the wheel 22, the clocks thereby restarting correctly. Specification 261,258, [Class 139, Watches &c.] is referred to.
