343,338. Hand and body driving mechanism. LAZZAROTTO, G. and CONGIU, R., 5, Via Cristoforo Colombo, Sampierdarena, Genova, Italy. March 7, 1930, No. 7448. [Class 136 (ii).] A wheeled vehicle of the type adapted to be propelled by hand-levers 28 in a manner analogous to rowing and in which the levers are each pivoted to turn about two axes at right-angles, is characterized by each lever being mounted to pivot about a horizontal axis on the outer end of an inwardly and downwardly inclined shaft 22 which is mounted so that it is free to pivot about its axis. In one form, a boat-shaped body made of wood, sheet metal, &c. is propelled by reciprocating the levers 28 which action by means of the shaft 22, a connecting rod 19, cog wheels 14, 12, 10 and a free wheel device 11 rotates the driving wheel 7 in one direction only. Two driving wheels are provided and driving mechanism is provided for each wheel. A pivotally mounted wheel 9 situated at the bow facilitates steering. The interior of the body is well shaped and a foot-rest 6 is provided. Additional steering mechanism may be fitted to the wheel 9 and more than one seat may be provided. In the latter case the oar-like levers, each with its attendant driving mechanism, are independently duplicated.
