Abstract
342,909. Boxes for smokers' requisites &c. HAMPTON, D. B., 53, South Croxted Road, West Dulwich, London. Feb. 14, 1930, No. 4941. [Class 18.] In a box containing two or more inner platforms, receptacles, &c., adapted to rise in tier formation when the lid is opened, the platforms are arranged one within the other and all of them are raised automatically in tiers when the lid is opened. Such boxes may hold smokers' requisites, bottles, manicure fittings, or other articles. In one form, a cylindrical box contains nested platforms h consisting of tubes outwardly flanged at the lower end, and the central tube has a solid extension k and slides on a tube l secured to the bottom of the box. When the lid is raised, a spring in the tube l pushes up the central tube until a ridge x on that tube contacts with a ridge z on the tube l, and every other platform is raised by the edge of the platform above contacting with a ridge n on the lower platform. Channels o into which wires are sprung prevent the platforms dropping out if the box is inverted. The tubes on the two outer platforms need not extend above the ridges n. If, instead of having a bayonet fitting, the lid is hinged, a connecting-link is used to retard the speed of rise of the platforms ; or the spring may be dispensed with and the lid connected to the central unit.
