Abstract

342,547. Pneumatic dispatch apparatus. LAMSON PNEUMATIC TUBE CO., Ltd. and HERRING, R. L., 132, Cheapside, London. Feb. 15, 1930. No. 5133. [Class 116.] In a central station having a series of incoming terminals arranged in one or more groups and a similarly arranged series of terminals for returning carriers to their respective points of origin, a conveyer being arranged between the groups, the carriers are delivered from the incoming terminals to the conveyer automatically and are transferred to a single group of operators stationed at the dispatch terminals who act as receivers, deal with the contents and then act as dispatchers. Each of the receiving terminals which are arranged in groups such as A, B, C, D, Figs. 2, 3, is preferably fitted with a device for separating ordinary and " sanctions " carriers, i.e. those which must be passed to an authorizer before being delivered to the operators. The ordinary carriers from the groups A, B, C, D pass down gravity shoots 19,21 to their respective tracks c, b, d, a formed by partitions on a moving endless belt conveyer 10, whilst " sanctions carriers from the groups A, C and B, D pass respectively to tracks f, e on the lower side of the belt and are conveyed in a direction opposite to that of the ordinary carriers to the suction tubes 27, 28 which convey them to the authorisers' station. The ordinary carriers pass to the operators, who are situated near the dispatching terminals E, where deflectors such as 22<1> and shoots 23 may be provided to deliver the carriers to the appropriate operators. After having been dealt with by the authorisers, " sanctions carriers are returned to terminals 29 at the operator's station, each such terminal having an opening approximately the length of a carrier so that a returned carrier is held therein until picked out by an operator, thus ensuring that sanctions carriers are dispatched in the order in which they are received. The suction tubes 27, 28 may be replaced by gravity shoots or moving conveyers, whilst if " sanctions " carriers are not required, the underside of the belt mav also be used for cash carriers. Further, movable stops may be employed to divert all the carriers to any given operator or operators. Specification 180,365, [Class 116, Shop &c. accessories], is referred to.
