S., 34, Fieldway, Garden Suburb, Wavertree, all in Liverpool: Nov. 1, 1929, No. 33307. [Class 40 (iv).] Group selectors are enabled to hunt over successive levels with the aid of a vertical wiper and a release magnet for the rotary movement only. The invention is described with reference to a switch having two sets of wipers. Series relay C on pulling up energizes the shunt-field relay G which locks up, and on falling back at the end of the digit energizes the rotary magnet and relay Q which locks up over the vertical wiper VW and reverses the connections of the line relay to prevent further digits from being sent by the register-controller. At the end of its stroke, R at springs r releases G which in turn releases R. If both trunks are busy G pulls up again and a further step is made. If the entire level is busy, the change over of 11th step springs s short circuit HA, HB (the test wipers now engaging a common contact) and operates the rotary release magnet RZ which locks up. When the wipers reach the rotary home position, rotary off-normal springs re-operate C (over rz<3>) in series with V. The wipers are lifted, the vertical magnet releasing RZ and then falling back. C holds up long enough to energize G which interacts with the rotary magnet as before. The vertical terminal of the last level in each group is dead and if the switch reaches the end of this level unsuccessfully Q is released and busy tone and flash wire 13 is connected up. When an idle line is found, HA or HB switches through. If both wipers find an idle line HA cuts off HB at the light armature ha<1>.
