Abstract
323,558. Automatic Telephone Manufacturing Co., Ltd., Gillings, C., and McGavin, J. Oct. 9, 1928. Automatic exchange systems. - In order to prevent interference between automatic switches hunting over the same trunk almost simultaneously, the interrupter relay for the hunting movement is adapted on operation to disconnect entirely from the test wiper so that its locking earth is not momentarily connected to the next bank contact; in addition, the switching relay is adapted to operate rapidly by discharge from a highly inductive retard coil to reduce the unguarded period on the selected trunk. In the step-bystep selector described, during the operation of the vertical magnet, interrupter relay G operates from earth at 18 over operated contact 20 of dialling relay C and locks up to earth at 14. When relay C releases at the end of the digit, rotary magnet R operates to step the switch to the first contacts of the level, and releases G. If the first trunk is busy, G re-operates from earth on wiper 24, and locks up again, disconnecting its circuit from the wiper. When an idle trunk is found and G releases, switching relay H is rapidly operated by discharge from coil I and is held over G which does not operate. The calling loop is switched through, and relays A, B are released, but earth is maintained at 18 on the test lead and relay H until earth is fed back from the succeeding switch. All trunks busy. The wipers rotate to the eleventh contacts when springs 8 are operated, short-circuiting H and disconnecting G, and a congestion meter is operated over wiper 24. Busy tone and flash are connected up from conductor 28, relay B being held from earth at 14 to battery on 26 during the battery period.
