Abstract
341,965. Permanent way. HARVEY, A. H., 5, Badminton Grove, and EBBW VALE STEEL, IRON, & COAL CO., Ltd., both in Ebbw Vale, Monmouthshire. Oct. 25, 1929, No. 32470. [Class 104 (ii).] A pressed-metal sleeper of inverted trough section has integral hollow chairs and base edge undulating up and down in the region of the chairs. The blank may be transversely corrugated at the chairs to provide material for the chairs and produce undulations in the base edges and sides. A packing h, Fig. 3, of wood or metal may be fitted to the rail jaw e<3> to engage the rail, and may be varied in size to adjust the gauge. The key jaw d<3> may be serrated or tapered. The packing may be extended to engage the rail foot, Fig. 5, with a pad j of hard fibre, or the packing h<1> may extend under the rail. In Fig. 7, the packing is extended to form a cradle k with projection k<2>, the cradle having flanges k<1>. The jaws may be formed to receive flange rails, or short jaws may be formed, Fig. 11, with the sloping face either flat or ribbed as shown. The jaws may be filled with concrete, or holes may be formed in the chair or sleeper for packing the ballast.
