Abstract

341,514. Moulds for making glassware. HAILWOOD, E. A., Beacon House, Texas Street, Morley, near Leeds. Oct. 15, 1929, No. 31221. [Class 56.] A mould for blowing glassware is so constructed t h a t parts of it may beseparated longitudinally leaving a circumferential gap through which a portion of the glass may be blown out to form a thin ring. This ring can be broken to separate the articles formed in the mould and leave them with edges having the shape of the gap. In the construction shown in Fig 1, the mould consists of a solid lower part A<1>, and an upper part A composed of hinged sections. The joint G between the two parts may have a serrated edge, as shown, and the two parts may be moved to or from one another by a pedal F. When a parison is being blown, the two parts of the mould are in contact with one another. As soon as the article is blown, the two parts are separated and further blowing causes a ridge of thin glass to be formed in the gap. The mould may also be constructed to form two different articles, such as a tube and a tumbler. In another construction shown in Fig. 3, an article, such as a jug, may be blown in a mould having a cavity Jl to form a handle, two plugs being arranged to squeeze in or puncture the glass at the part J<3>. In another construction, a ring may be fitted to the neck of the mould and opened out, or moved upwards, to allow the glass to be blown into a thin ridge.
