Abstract
341,096. Clutches ; shaft couplings ; variable-speed gearing. AKT.-GES. PULVIS, Glarus, Switzerland. Oct. 11, 1929, No. 30930. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1928. Addition to 275,125, [Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.]. [Class 80 (ii).] In slipping clutches of the kind having blades working in powdered or granular material such as graphite, as set forth in the parent Specification, the blades 4, having perforations 5, are adjustable in position to vary the amount of slip. The blades are carried on radial spindles 6 extending from the blade-wheel boss 1 and, in one form, the spindles are rotatable to vary the blade angle between an inoperative position and the maximum position shown in Fig. 1 by racks 8, which are carried by a slidable collar 9 and engage teeth 7 on the spindles. The casing 3 is separate from but connected to its boss 2 by means 23. In a modification, non-revoluble threaded spindles 6 are movable radially by turning worms 11, Fig. 3, engaging teeth on nuts 20, so that the blades 4 can be moved into or out of the annular layer of powder &c. Both forms of adjustment may be combined. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also reference to forms in which a single blade is provided and in which the blade wheel may be either the driving or the driven element. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
