Abstract
341,033. Feeding grannlar &c. materials. ASH CO. (LONDON), Ltd., 63, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Duetsch, J.; 95, North Walnut Street, East Orange, New Jersey, U.S.A.). Oct. 2, 1929, No. 29920. [Class 59.] In apparatus for handling ash and other solids in bulk, comprising surfaces 3 which receive and contain the solids in piles, the surfaces 3 incline downwards divergingly from a summit, liquid under pressure being directed against the exposed surfaces of the piles. Ash is washed from the surfaces 3 through gratings 5 into the sluiceway 6. The openings 4 in the lateral walls 1 of the hopper are closed and sealed by counterweighted doors 7. Housings 9 having inspection doors 10 contain highpressure pipe lines 11 which have ball and socket joints so that water is discharged from nozzles 12 across the full width of the surfaces 3. A T-shaped member 14 at the apex of the supporting surfaces prevents water overshooting the apex when the ash level is low. In a modification for hoppers of considerable width, a plurality of openings 4 and doors 7 is provided on each side, and a sluiceway extends down each side.
