Abstract

339,225. Martenot, M. L. E. April 3, 1930. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, April 4, 1930.] Electrically vibrated instruments.- The keys of an electrical instrument employing oscillating circuits are pivotally movable laterally as well as vertically and control means varying the frequency and intensity: a vibrato may thus be obtained. Depression of a key 45 freely pivoted at 46 closes an electrical contact producing a note, and also brings a small brush 51 against a wire 49 connected to the movable plate 44 of a condenser, so that on lateral oscillation of the key between stops 47 a vibrato is obtained by viariation of frequency. At the same time, the key actuates a variable resistance 54 by a connection 52 so that the intensity increases with depth of touch. Variable inductances may be used. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a spring-mounted keyboard which is oscillated as a whole by the operator's hand and actuates a variable condenser, inductance, or resistance to produce a vibrato. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted, but forms the subject of Specification 335,997.
