Openers.-A picker roll for feeding or carding tobacco and similar substances comprises a hard metal tube 5 with perforations 6 in which are fitted pins 7 of hard metal coated with a soft metal. The holes are flared at 10 to facilitate the insertion of the pins without stripping off the soft coating. The tube 5 may be of steel and the pins of steel coated with lead or copper
