Abstract

337,459. Clarke, E. J. Aug. 2, 1929. Lids; joints between box bottoms and bodies; materials, special, for boxes.-A packing case for tin plates &c. comprises a wooden frame 1 closed at the top and bottom by flexible covering members 3, 2 nailed or screwed to the frame, each top and bottom member being composed of two contiguous layers of thin sheet waterproof material between which are interposed flat thin sheet metal reinforcing strips. As shown one or more transverse reinforcing strips 7 are disposed between the layers 4, 5 of cardboard &c. waterproofed with bitumen, latex, &c. and plates 6 may also be used to strengthen the corners of the top and bottom members. The strips may be arranged longitudinally as well as transversely of the top or bottom or they may be arranged diagonally thereof. The layers and strips may be secured together by eyeletted rivets 9 which serve as guides for the nails or screws by which the top 3 and bottom 2 are secured to the frame 1. One or more of the strips 7 may be extended at 11 beyond the edge of the member 3 and secured to a side of the frame 1 to hinge the member 3 thereto or the corner plates may be similarly extended.
