Abstract
336,417. Evans, J. M. Oct. 9, 1929. Soldering and brazing.-In a clamp for holding pipes coaxially or inclined or at right angles to each other during soldering or brazing, of the kind comprising two telescopic members, the inner of which carries a number of stops cooperating with the outer member to bear on the pipe on relative movement thereof, the stops are pivoted on transverse axes at one end of the inner member and bear against the walls of apertures in the outer member. through which they are forced to engage the pipe on relative movement of the members. The clamp may consist of a tube 14 containing a rod 11, which carries pivoted stops 13 projected through slots 17 in the tube by operating a screm 16 so as to engage the inner surface of the pipe 28. The tube is slotted at 25 so as to guide a screw 23, which carries a sleeve 20 and may be screwed into one of a number of holes 26 in the rod, to increase the range of adjustment. A collar 21 is screwed on to the sleeve to clamp the fitting 27 against the pipe 28. The screw 23 may be passed into one of a number of holes 29 in the tube so as to hold the stops 13 in extended position, in which case the screw 16 may be dispensed with. A distance sleeve may be inserted between the fitting 27 and the collar 21. In another form Fig. 3, the tube 14 may be screwed to receive the collar 30 and the rod 11 pushed down so as to project the stops 13 and then fixed by a screw 31.
