Abstract
283,051. Cresci, G. H., and Blain, S. F. May 23, 1927. Packing, inserting.-A tool to apply packing to seal the joints between the tubes and headers of steam condensers, comprises a hollow handle 2, which is held by the operator, a tubular thread guide 4 working in the handle and controlled' by a spring 6, a stud 15 and slot 14 connection ensuring that angular movement accompanies relative longitudinal movement of the members, and a centering guide 3 controlled by a spring 5 and adapted to be rotated by a brace secured to the end 12. A packing tube 9 forming part of the handle has its end cut to engage a loop of the packing thread which is inserted into position in the plate 20 as shown in Fig. 1, with the ends of the loop engaged in slots 21, 22 cut in the thread guide 4. The insertion of the loop into the inmost position against the far end of the plate 20, causes the thread guide to effect a partial turn and release the free end of the loop. The packing is then completed by turning the guide 3 by the brace.
