Abstract
335,987. Knowles, A. E. July 6, 1929. Addition to 320,388. Oxygen and hydrogen, obtaining; electrolytes, circulating.-The liquid level in an electrolytic gas-generator is maintained by flow from a tank c which is fed with electrolyte from gas-washing chambers a, b ; delivery of fresh liquid to the washing chambers is controlled by a float e in the tank c. Gas is delivered to the washing chambers at f, passes down through tubes h mounted in a partition i and bubbles up through the liquid, leaving at g. Each washing chamber is connected by a tube k to a chamber m, open out the top, mounted in the tank c. The chamber m communicates with the tank c bv an adjustable inner tube n, the top of which is set at a predetermined level above the gas orifices at the bottom of the tubes h so as to maintain a given pressure in the gas-collecting bells of the cells and a constant gas space for the separation of spray. The tubes k are connected to the chamber m by flanges o so as to support it. The cell is provided with asbestos diaphragms depending from alternate bells.
