Stoppers and lids secured by toggle-levers and the like; detachable stoppers secured by clamping devices or clips.-A removable clamping device for the covers of preserve jars &c. comprises a clamping arm 1, curved to form a bearing hook 1<1> bearing in a groove in the cover, and pivoted by portions 1<11> to loops 2<1> formed in a locking arm 2, engaging by members 2" under a groove in the container body. The members are preferably made of stout spring metal wire, and may be fitted in the reverse way, i.e. the member 2 engaging the cover and member 1 the container body.
