Abstract

335,022. Haddan, R., (Allen, F. L.). Aug. 16,1929. Crystallizing.- Sugar crystals are obtained from massecuite by agitating it in a seriesof parallel planes and simultaneously cooling it in each of a series of parallel planes alternating with the first mentioned planes. The cooling means extend substantially across the whole section of the crystallizing vessel. A tank 1 contains a shaft 3 bearing pairs of stirrers 4, successive pairs being placed at 90‹ with one another. Between the pairs of stirrers are disposed cooling coils 5 supported by split bars 11. Cooling fluid is supplied by a main pipe 6 through cocks 10, and is' discharged into a gutter 7. The process may be carried out in tanks of other shapes than that illustrated.
