Fittings, internal; hand-holes; strengthening by embossing; corner joints; boxes designed for st:erilizing contents; boxes of skeleton form combined in tiers.-A crate for bottles, e.g. milk bottles, adapted for transport, washing, sterilizing, drying and filling and subsequent sterilizing of the contents, is constructed with thin sheet metal sides and ends, A, A' respectively, with panels a pressed inwardly so as to position the outer rows of bottles, the outer surfaces being without projections. Handles C, apertures a<2>, welded strengthening rims B and stacking irons N for maintaining the crates in position when stacked are also provided. The side plates A preferably overlap the end plates A<1> on the outside and the members B are preferably on the inside of the top and bottom rim. The bottles are held in place by longitudinal, transverse and vertical wires welded to each other and to the crate, the wire structure being if desired formed separately and then welded into the crate. Top and bottom sheet metal openwork frames may be used instead of wire and may be welded to the crate.
