Abstract
334,841. Pinder, J. June 4, 1929. Theft alarms. - A visual signal is given on the theft of a motor vehicle by the exhaust gases being emitted at a non- normal position on the vehicle. On pressing down the extension J' of the rod J, the sleeve B', to which the rod J is attached, is positioned in the chamber B so that the exhaust gases instead of discharging through the silencer A, are divided so as to be discharged by way of the perforated disc Q, orifices Q', Q<2> and pipe P, through an orifice or grating at the non-normal positions D', D<2>, F or F'. A large volume of smoke can be emitted by allowing the diverted hot exhaust gases to pass round the tube T charged from the small pipe T' with oil or other smoke producing material. The rod J is maintained in its operative position by the bolt N' of the look N in the control box E, being positioned over the extension J'. On unkeying the lock N the rod J rises under the action of the spring S to its inoperative position, in which it is maintained by the bolt N' being locked under the projection V on the rod, the rod J in this position causing the disc Q to rise so as to close the orifices Q' and Q<2> and cause the exhaust gases to be emitted in the normal way through the orifice 0' to the silencer A. The sleeve B' may be replaced by a three-way valve or cock.
