Abstract

333,850. Bailey, F., and Jackson, F. H. Jan. 5, 1929, [Convention date]. Strainers comprising grids or gratings. - Relates to straining apparatus of the type described in Specifications 246,581 and 307,984, and comprising a circular straining. surface held stationary in a chamber, the sectors of the surface being cleansed successively by a reverse flow of liquid carried away through a sector-shaped cleanser-box which rotates over the straining surface. With the form of apparatus shown in Fig. 1, straining takes place under pressure from right to left through the surface b and a portion of the liquid strained passes backward into the cleanser box e thus cleansing the portion of the surface b covered thereby. The flush liquid is discharged axially under control of a valve opened by a rod h<1>, which passes centrally through the main shaft and is opened by cam mechanism, and closed by a spring h<2>, The apparatus shown in Fig. 2 is operated under suction, the flush liquid passing through a flush box d which rotates opposite to the cleanser-box e. The flush liquid enters through a port l which comes successive over each of a series of ports f in a chamber j. The discharge of the flush liquid takes place through a non-return valve m. Contact between the faces of the straining face a, the cleanser-box e and the flush-box d are secured by means of a screw o<1> which bears against the end of a push rod o extending through the central shaft and engaging a cotter n<1> which is fixed in the hub of the box d and extends through a slot in the shaft.
