Abstract

332,908. Gilbert, V. H., Johnson, A. H., and Radiovisor Parent, Ltd. Jan. 28, 1929. Light-sensitive cells.-A selenium cell 1 is connected in series with a fixed resistance 9 and a battery 10. A neon tube 2 is connected between the junction of the resistance 1, 9 and the grid of a thermionic valve 11, in the anode circuit of which is a relay 16. A grid leak 17 of the order of 10 megohms is connected as shown. Befoxe ionization takes place in the tube 2, the grid of the valve 11 is insulated and a large anode current flows. When the potential difference at the junction of the resistance 1, 9 due to the impressed current is sufficiently great, ionization takes place in the neon tube 2, impressing a high negative potential on the grid of the valve and consequently reducing the anode current to a low value. The resistance 9 consists of a second selenium cell kept under constant illumination. Changes of atmospheric temperatures then affect both cells equally and cause no change in the potential at their junction.
