Abstract

332,779. Motor Safety Indicator, Inc. Oct. 29, 1928, [Convention date]. Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-A device for signalling the speed of a vehicle of the type wherein translucent panels of different colours are brought in accordance with the speed of the vehicle between a light and a lens or lenses through which it is observed, comprises a rotatable speed-designating element 4 for the driver driven in known manner from the vehicle and supported by a vertical pivot-shaft 5, carried in a bearing 6, to which is secured the bushing 15 of the spider frame 10 carrying the coloured translucent panels 20, 21, 22 which rotate between the light 12 and lens 14 to give a signal of the group speed to persons external to the car. The device is enclosed in a housing 9 provided with springs 24 fitted with lenses 25 or a combination of mirrors for signalling the group speed to persons at opposite sides of the vehicle. To provide for easy mounting of the lamp 12 it is carried in a socket 26 carried by a threaded plug 27 mounted in an opening 28 through the top wall of the housing 9. The housing 9 is mounted upon a suitable base 32 arranged with a flange 33 for attachment to a part of the vehicle. A known odometer 3 can be incorporated in the housing 9.
