Circular - saw machines. - The feed screw 4 for the saw carriage 2 is provided wit h a mechanical drive from a shaft 8<a> through worm gearing 8 and a clutch 9, as well as an electric drive at a higher speed by means of a spur wheel fast on the screw and geared to the spindle of a three-phase motor 6, which is controlled by a hard switch N, a reversing contactor A and mechanically-operated switches 12, 20 and 21. On putting the mechanical drive into action, by means of a hand lever 11<a> against a spring 7, the motor circuit is cut out by opening a switch 12 by means of a lug 10<a> on th lever 10 which operates the clutch 9, the lever 10 being retained by a latch 18a on a second lever 18 which is tripped at the end of the forward feed by a lug 15 on the carriage so as to disengage the lever 10, which is then returned by its spring 7 to disengage the clutch 2 and close the switch 12 again. At the same time a lug 10<c> closes the switch 20 as to start the motor and effect a quick return of the carriage, which at the end of the return stroke restores the lever 10 to its mid position by means of a lug 14. A quick forward movement may be obtained by closing the switch N, the switches 12 and 21 remaining closed, and a quick reverse movement by moving the hand lever 11<a> to close the switch 20.
