Cards and the like, punching.-In a machine for punching or perforating jacquard strips, cards, pattern discs, and the like for textile and knitting machines, a punch 1, Fig. 1, co-operating with a die 3, is reciprocated by the action of its roller 7 in a groove cam 4, which is slid on the shaft 5 into and out of operative position by means of a spring 4a, a forked lever 9, and an extension 10 connected to a treadle (not shown) by a rod 11. The disc 35, Fig. 4, to be punched is supported on a table 12 having a ratchet wheel 13, and is rotated therewith on the spindle 14 by pawls 15, 16 of a lever 17 actuated through connections 21, 22 from a shaft 20, which is rocked from the shaft 5 by the action of a cam 18 on the roll of a lever 23. The rock shaft 20 also carries a spring-controlled lever 26 with a pawl 27 for engagement with the ratchet wheel 29 of the pattern drum 19, so that the latter mav be rotated in unison with the feed movement. The disc 35 is located on the table 12 by means of a pin 36 and upstanding flanges 37 adapted to enter corresponding holes in the disc, whilst it is clamped into position by a plate 38 and screws 40. The continual rotation of the shaft 5 by hand or other means gives a rotary movement to the drum 19 and the disc 35, and a prepared pattern on the former is rotated past an adjustable pointer 30 to indicate the time for the punching action. The work feeding means applicable to punching strip material is described. The Provisional Specification describes a, reciprocating punch automatically controlled by the movement of the adjustable pointer.
