Abstract

331,126. Matz, M. Aug. 9, 1929. Reversible handles; fixing by grooved members.-In a toothbrush of the kind wherein the handle is attached to the stock by engaging an undercut slot or slots in the upper surface of the stock, the handle has a downwardly projecting shoulder or shoulders interengaging an upwardly projecting shoulder or shoulders on the stock. As shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the end of the handle 4 is dovetail in shape and may be engaged either in the longitudinal dovetail slot 3 or in the transverse slot 2; in the one position it is held against movement in either direction by the shoulders 5, 9 on the handle engaging the shoulder 8 and end 10 of the stock, and in the other position by the shoulders 5, 6 engaging the step 7 and edge of the stock. The stock may be of springy material such as celluloid to enable the sides of the slot to spring outwardly when the handle is being slid into position. In the modification shown in Fig. 6 the handle is retained in position by a projection 17 adapted to engage recesses 15 in the base of the dovetail slots in the stock, the handle end 16 being if desired slit at 18 to provide a resilient tongue carrying the projection 17. In another modification. Fig. 9, the upper part of the handle 33 has a resilient tongue 34 with a laterally projecting lug 35 having a projection 36 on its underface adapted to engage a recess 37 in the upper face of the stock, whilst in a further modification, Fig. 10, the projection 19 is carried by a blade spring 20 secured to the handle and manipulated by a stud 30.
