Abstract
331,052. Dicker, S. G. S., (Naamlooze Vennootschap Philips' Gloeilampenfabrieken). May 17, 1929. R÷ntgen-ray tubes. -In tubes in which the focal spot moves over the surface of the anticathode, the focal spot is so shaped that it is traversed by active points of the anticathode in substantially equal time .intervals, uniform heating of the anticathode and an increased maximum load being produced. The anticathode 8, Fig. 1, may comprise a blunt tungsten cone on a rotatably mounted cylinder of copper having a magnetic lining and may be rotated as the rotor of an induction motor, the stator 17 of which is outside the tube and is supplied from a polyphase supply or through phase-changing devices. The incandescent cathode 5 is arranged in a focussing device 6 with a triangular or trapezium-shaped aperture 9. The focal spot is bounded by two generators of the conical surface 8 as shown at 22, Fig. 3, and increases in width outwards from the axis of rotation to equalize the times taken to cross the focal spot by points at different distances from the axis. Stray R÷ntgen-rays are suppressed by shields 2 and by a lead shield 19 between the central metal part 3 of the tube and the earthed metal cylinder 18. The tungsten cone 8 may be of even thickness less than 0.3 mm, and may be thicker at its edges.
